A 17-hour 4K HDR slate built around the biggest day in sports
NBCUniversal says it will present an “all day” 4K HDR lineup on Sunday, February 8, 2026, spanning both Super Bowl LX and coverage from the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The company said the plan includes distributing 4K HDR programming on the NBC broadcast network and on Peacock, creating a single-day viewing block that begins in the morning and runs late into the night.

Under the schedule outlined by NBCUniversal, Olympic coverage begins at 7 a.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, followed by Super Bowl pregame programming at noon ET and kickoff coverage at 6:30 p.m. ET. The day then continues with a primetime Olympics segment beginning at about 10:45 p.m. ET. NBCUniversal described the combined slate as roughly 17 hours of 4K HDR programming.
For broadcasters, 4K HDR requires more than flipping a switch: it impacts cameras, trucks, graphics systems, signal paths, encoding, and distribution workflows, especially when the same day includes two major live events. NBCUniversal framed the plan as part of a “Legendary February” push and positioned it as a milestone in the technical evolution of its live sports production.
What it means for viewers
For fans watching at home, the move signals a continued shift toward higher-fidelity viewing on both traditional broadcast and streaming. Access to 4K HDR coverage can depend on device capability, app support, and service tiers, but the company’s announcement underscores how the biggest sports rights are increasingly paired with premium-format distribution to differentiate platforms.
The effort also highlights the growing role of streaming in major sports events. By promoting parallel 4K HDR availability on NBC and Peacock, NBCUniversal is emphasizing that its top-tier coverage strategy now treats broadcast and streaming as co-equal paths for marquee live programming.
With Super Bowl LX and Winter Olympics events sharing the same calendar day, NBCUniversal is betting that technical ambition and an uninterrupted high-resolution slate will help it stand out in a competitive media landscape where picture quality, latency, and reliability have become central to the viewer experience.
